Printable Pangolin Mask

printable pangolin mask for kids

The world's most trafficked mammal - and one of its most extraordinary! Our printable pangolin mask is genuinely unlike anything else in the collection, with those remarkable overlapping scales covering almost the entire body. The pangolin looks like something designed by a committee that couldn't decide between a lizard and an artichoke, and it's absolutely magnificent for it. Perfect for unusual animals school projects, conservation topics, World Book Day, and birthday parties.

The pangolin is the animal most urgently in need of better public recognition - it's critically endangered due to illegal trafficking, yet most children have never heard of it. This mask is a small but meaningful way to change that. Every mask comes with a full colour version AND a black and white line art version for colouring in.

5 Interesting Facts About Pangolins!

  • Pangolins are the world's most trafficked mammals - all eight species are threatened with extinction, primarily due to demand in Asia where their scales are incorrectly believed to have medicinal properties.
  • Their scales are made of keratin - the same material as human fingernails and rhino horns. When threatened, they curl into a tight ball and their scales provide effective armour against most predators.
  • Pangolins have no teeth - they swallow small stones to help grind up insects in their muscular stomachs, and their incredibly long, sticky tongue (longer than their body) does all the catching.
  • A pangolin's tongue is attached near its pelvis rather than its throat - when fully extended it can reach 40cm beyond the tip of the snout, longer than the animal's entire body.
  • Baby pangolins ride on their mother's tail - she curls around them when danger approaches, protecting them completely within her scaled body until the threat has passed.
