Printable Tarsier Mask

printable tarsier mask for kids

Possibly the most enormous eyes relative to body size of any mammal on Earth - and our printable tarsier mask makes the most of every single millimetre of them! The tarsier is a tiny, nocturnal primate from Southeast Asia whose eyes are literally larger than its brain, giving it that permanently startled expression that children find absolutely irresistible. Perfect for primates school plays, nocturnal animals classroom projects, World Book Day, birthday parties, and wide-eyed imaginative play.

The tarsier is one of those animals that children simply cannot believe is real - those extraordinary eyes, combined with the ability to rotate its head almost 360 degrees, make it look like something from a fantasy novel. A genuinely unforgettable mask. Every mask comes with a full colour version AND a black and white line art version for colouring in.

5 Interesting Facts About Tarsiers!

  • Each of a tarsier's eyes is larger than its entire brain - they're fixed in the skull and cannot move, which is why tarsiers rotate their heads up to 180 degrees in each direction (nearly 360 degrees total) to look around.
  • Tarsiers are the only entirely carnivorous primates - unlike all other primates, which eat at least some plant material, tarsiers eat exclusively live prey: insects, lizards, snakes and small birds.
  • They can hear ultrasound - tarsiers communicate using ultrasonic calls completely inaudible to humans, allowing them to signal to each other without alerting predators or prey.
  • Tarsiers have the longest legs relative to body size of any mammal - their elongated ankle bones (tarsals, from which they get their name) allow them to leap up to 40 times their body length between branches.
  • They are surprisingly ancient - tarsier fossils from 45 million years ago are almost identical to living species, making them one of the least-changed primate lineages in evolutionary history.
